Is the encroaching end of the summer causing you to lose your zen? Then throw on your yoga clothes and hustle over to @lucentyoga at either (or both) of the times listed below and let me help you get it back. We will move, sweat and stretch our way to serenity.
The late summer is full of indulgences, from peach and strawberry pie, to perhaps too much @montaukbrewco, to choosing sleep over your regular Sunday morning fitness class. Luckily, we have yoga twists to help detox all the sugar, alcohol and laziness right out of you. Join me Tuesday morning at 9:30am @lucentyoga and leave feeling open and refreshed…and maybe hungry for another piece of pie. 😉
I bend so that I don’t break. Living in NYC is a constant compromise. You must be able to let go of previous physical boundaries due the constant onslaught of people on the street or subways, let go of what you used to consider quiet for the hum of cars, trains and sirens, and learn to not just live but enjoy the concrete jungle as your home. Oddly living in such a busy, loud, crowded space has made me more easy going and able to find relaxation even during a loud cramped MRI. Although I’m sure my daily 19 year yoga practice hasn’t hurt. Join me @lucentyoga to let go of any hidden stress and also become more aware of your ability to physically and mentally compromise so as to float versus trudge through your day.
Marichyasana A is an intense opening pose from the ashtanga Primary Series. The chest, shoulders and hips are opened with the bind and the spine and hamstrings are lengthened with the forward fold. Join me at my 7am Wednesday class @lucentyoga to feel its wonders for yourself. See you soon!
Bow Pose, aka Dhanurasana, is a favorite of mine. It opens the entire front of the body from the shoulders and chest, through the hips on down to the ankles. If you rock back and forth you gently massage the internal organs and help with digestion. As Bow Pose is a backbend, it’s also is an energizing pose, concluding that there’s really nothing this fabulous asana can’t do! Come to my 12:30pm Thursday class @lucentyoga to feel its wonders for yourself. ✨
Mercury is in retrograde, a full moon is on the horizon, an eclipse too and it’s Leo season, so crazy people like me are running wild feeling full of ourselves. Thank goodness I’m teaching twice @lucentyoga this weekend to help bring some zen to these insane times. Good luck out there (I’ve already broken my toe crossing the street) and see you in the mat!
Downward Dog Split, one of my favorite poses, always feels fabulous whenever I come into it. The hamstrings are both strengthened and stretched, along with the core and shoulders. If you want to get more into the hips, just bend your extended leg and stack your hips. Join me Tuesday morning at 9:30am @lucentyoga to explore the possibilities of this pose for yourself.
No, that’s not a mystery hand on my right inner thigh, it’s my own left hand as I’m in a half bound triangle. Have you always wanted to do cool, weird tricks with your body to freak people out on dates or at dinner parties? Then join me on Saturday at 4:30pm @lucentyoga for a fun class to improve your flexibility (and strength and posture and mood, aka EVERYTHING) and then wow your friends with some bizarre tricks of your own. 😉
Flexibility and strength, two major physical and mental gains of yoga. I came to yoga physically flexible but lacking in strength (I couldn’t even chaturanga) and mentally strong but lacking in flexibility (it was my way or the highway). Yoga has brought expansion to my mind and strength to my body, taught me much about diligence and patience and made me a more accepting, less judgmental person. Join me Saturday at 4:30pm @lucentyoga to test both your fortitude and your openness and see what you can gain and how you can grow from your practice.
